I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the isolating valve to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go straight to the main valve for your home. If you are unable to locate the tap to turn off, then you can try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside the home to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once that is done, give us a call, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be with you rapidly to resolve the problem.

While you wait, start cleaning up any water, place a bucket to catch any drips, and remove valuable possessions from the area. If the house water is turned off, also switch off the heating for the hot water.
